2024 is the year of Matthew 24:24. “For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect” (Matthew 24:24 NKJV).
Matthew 24 begins with Yeshua’s disciples asking Him about the sign of His coming and of the end of the age. The very first thing that Messiah Yeshua says is: “Take heed that no one deceives you” (Matthew 24:4).
Currently, the vast majority of Christ’s Church is under some level of deception. Just as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so have believers’ minds been corrupted from the simplicity and purity that is in Christ and His Word (2 Cor. 11:3). Things have only gotten worse with AI now in the mix.
According to my Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary (10th Edition), the definitions of “deceive” and “deception” are:
deceive ~verb : [archaic] ENSNARE : to be false to : [archaic] to fail to fulfill : CHEAT : to cause to accept as true or valid what is false or invalid : to practice deceit : to give a false impression… syn. DECEIVE implies imposing a false idea or belief that causes ignorance, bewilderment, or helplessness. MISLEAD implies a leading astray that may or may not be intentional. DELUDE implies deceiving so thoroughly as to obscure the truth. BEGUILE stresses the use of charm and persuasion in deceiving.
deception ~noun : the act of deceiving : the fact or condition of being deceived: something that deceives : TRICK… syn DECEPTION may or may not imply blameworthiness, since it may suggest cheating or merely tactical resource. FRAUD always implies guilt and often criminality in act or practice. DOUBLE-DEALING suggests treachery or at least action contrary to a professed attitude. SUBTERFUGE suggests the adoption of a stratagem or the telling of a lie in order to escape guilt or to gain an end. TRICKERY implies ingenious acts intended to dupe or cheat.
I believe that, today, most people have become so thoroughly deceived that the truth is not clearly seen or easily distinguished. We all need, desperately need, to pray and position ourselves to “receive the love of the truth” to be saved (2 Thess. 2:10).
Let’s look to the Scriptures for a few more antidotes for deception:
KNOW THE ACCURATE, UNERRING TRUTH OF THE HEAVENLY FATHER AND HIS GOODNESS: “Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. 18 Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures” (James 1:16-18).
KNOW THE WORD OF GOD: “Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. 13 But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:12-17).
KNOW THAT YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW; THEREFORE, SOW TO THE SPIRIT AND DO GOOD TO ALL: “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith” (Galatians 6:7-10).
Behold, 2024 is the year that those who receive the love the truth from God Himself will be equipped as end-time warriors to overcome deception in their own lives, in their families, and in the world.
