The Hebraic understanding of “mistakes” is that they are merely unintentional sin, and all we need to do is ask for forgiveness and learn from them. Trying new things and making mistakes is part of life, especially if you are trying to live a righteous life.
Intentional sin is another matter. We need to look at the Book of Leviticus and the instructions for the priests to understand these ancient foundations for our faith. The principles in the sacrifices & offerings are still true for us today. BTW – Jews did not get saved by offering sacrifices before the New Covenant. No Scripture teaches that. Scripture does teach us; however, that there is no sacrifice that can be brought by a man for intentional sin.
There is however a TRUTH painted by God in the story of Abraham and Isaac going up Mount Moriah to worship God that if God brings a lamb for you, it will cover all your intentional sin and it will cause you to pass from death to life. It is called: “The Lamb of God Sacrifice.” BTW – This was taught to God’s people before Moses was given the Torah, which was written by the finger of God.
“Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! And looking upon Jesus as He walked, he saith, ‘Behold the Lamb of God!’ “(John 1:29,36 NKJV).
“For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.” (Rev 7:17 KJV).
Submitting to God’s Spirit is a way that we live righteously, but don’t forget that it is accompanied by the enabling power of the Blood of the Lamb.
I believe that God intentionally made it that a major way that people learn is though their mistakes, because mistakes are built-in heart checks that help keep us humble and able to receive His saturating, penetrating, overcoming grace!
