KNOWING NOTHING EXCEPT CHRIST CRUCIFIED

“For I am determined TO KNOW NOTHING among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified” (1 Corinthians 2:2 _NASB).

When you pick up the cross, you have to drop everything else.

On the surface, the Greek word for “crucified” means to impale on the cross. If you dig a level deeper, it describes a stake that is set upright, or a cross as an instrument of capital punishment. The utmost picture of this is the atonement of Christ on the Cross. Digging another level deeper into the Greek reveals the fundamental meaning of being crucified. Being crucified means to stand, abide, appoint, bring, continue, covenant, establish, hold up, lay, present, set, set up, stanch, stand by, stand forth, stand still, and stand up.

Let’s just simplify to say that to be crucified is to stand, to abide, and to present. Our crucified stance (stand) causes us to abide in ALEF-TAV (את) in and ALEF-TAV in us. We must be crucified in union with Christ to be in that primordial space, as it was in the Garden where man walked with God in the cool of the day: “Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulcher, wherein was never man yet laid” (John 19:41).This is the place where mankind is made whole: “Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by Him does this man stand before you whole” (Acts 4:10).

To truly know nothing except Christ crucified is have our body of sin done away with: “For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin, for the one who has died is freed from sin” (Romans 6:5-7 _NASB).

Therefore, we embrace the Heavenly Father’s gift of being “in Christ” and we pin on our “Fools For Christ” badge, preaching the good news of Christ crucified who is both the power and wisdom of God: “For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block, and to Gentiles foolishness, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than mankind, and the weakness of God is stronger than mankind. … but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, and the insignificant things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, so that no human may boast before God. But it is due to Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, so that, just as it is written: ‘Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord’” (1 Corinthians 1:22-25,27-31 _NASB).
