MIRACULOUSLY SUSTAINED IN NOTHING

In God’s wilderness, “nothing” reveals His Bride is taught to lean on her Beloved: “Who is this coming up from the wilderness, Leaning upon her beloved?” (Song of Solomon 8:5).

In this place, the only thing that sustains the Bride of Christ is manna: “But now our whole being is dried up; there is NOTHING AT ALL EXCEPT THIS MANNA before our eyes!” ⁷ Now the manna was like coriander seed, and its color like the color of bdellium. ⁸ The people went about and gathered it, ground it on millstones or beat it in the mortar, cooked it in pans, and made cakes of it; and its taste was like the taste of pastry prepared with oil. ⁹ And when the dew fell on the camp in the night, the manna fell on it” (Numbers 11:6-9).

The Deuterocanon Book of Wisdom gives us more details about this nourishing dew from heaven: “Instead of these things, You gave Your people messengers’ food to eat. And You provided ready-to-eat bread for them from Heaven without toil, Having the virtue of every pleasant flavor, And agreeable to every taste. For Your nature showed sweetness toward Your children, While that bread, serving the desire of the eater, changed itself according to every man’s choice. … For the creation, ministering to You its Maker, Strains its force against the unrighteous for punishment And slackens it on behalf of those who trust in You, for kindness. Therefore at that time also, converting itself into all forms, it ministered to Your all-nourishing bounty, according to the desire of those who had need. That Your sons, whom You loved, O LORD, Might learn that it is not growth of crops that nourishes a man, But that Your word preserves those who trust You” (Wisdom 16:20-21,24-26).

When Yeshua (Jesus) was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil, the tempter first challenge was about sustenance during a time when Yeshua’s physical body was on the edge: “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread” (Matthew 4:3). Do you remember Yeshua’s response? He quoted a verse about manna. “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ” (Matthew 4:4).

Yeshua’s manna quote came from Deuteronomy 8:3. Moses told all Is-real: “Every commandment which I command you today you must be careful to observe, that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the land of which the Lord swore to your fathers. ² And you shall remember that the Lord your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not. ³ So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord. ⁴ Your garments did not wear out on you, nor did your foot swell these forty years. ⁵ You should know in your heart that as a man chastens his son, so the Lord your God chastens you. ⁶ Therefore you shall keep the commandments of the Lord your God, to walk in His ways and to fear Him” (Deuteronomy 8:1-6).

May you and yours be humble and teachable, so that you may lean on our Beloved and you may know that you are sustained by every word that proceeds from the mouth of I am that I am.
