THE SHEMA AWAKENING BLAST

“How blessed are the people who know the joyful sound [blast of the shofar] …” (Psalms 89:15 NAS).

The Feast of Trumpets (i.e., Yom Teruah) begins around 12 Noon EST on Friday September 18, 2020, which is sunset in Jerusalem and goes for two full days from sundown to sundown.

Recall that Yom Teruah is the Day of the Sounding of the Shofar, or the Day of the Awakening Blast; because teruah means “an awakening blast.” The Hebrews focus on Yom Teruah is every person hearing the shofar. This means that the blessing is to hear the shofar being blown, not actually blow it yourself. The blessing is to shema the shofar.

Shema Yisrael Adonai Eloheinu Adonai Echad (שְׁמַע יִשְׂרָאֵל יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ יְהוָה אֶחָ‎) is found in Deuteronomy 6:4. In English, it means “Hear, O Israel; the LORD is our God, the LORD is One.” This first verse of the Shema is considered the most essential declaration of faith for the Jews — the Lord is our God, the Lord is one.

It is followed by one line of text that is traditionally recited in an undertone: Baruch shem kavod malchuto l’olam va-ed (בָּרוּךְ שֵׁם כְּבוֹד מַלְכוּתוֹ לְעוֹלָם וָעֶד). In English, it means Blessed is the name of His glorious kingdom for ever and ever.

The Shema is said to be the watch word of Israel. It is sung during the Jewish people’s evening and morning prayers. It was also sung when approximately six million Jews were being led to their deaths in the Holocaust. They died with the Shema on their lips.

If you ask a Hebrew (one who has crossed over) what’s the meaning of the Shema, one of the typical answers you will hear is: To Shema is to hear, understand, and do; because after Israel is told to hear the Lord is our God and He is one in Deuteronomy 6:4, the passage that follows goes on by giving understanding on how their faith should be lived: Love God with all your being, teach His commandments to your children, impress His words upon your very heart, etc.

To Shema is to hear, understand, and do. If a person does all three steps, they are considered to KNOW that subject. They have followed the leading of the Lord by hearing Him, seeking to understand the Heavenly Father’s perfect will, and then doing whatever is required (obedience). So, when Psalms 89:15 says, “How blessed are the people who KNOW the joyful sound [blast of the shofar],” it is referring to hearing, understanding, and doing the joyful awakening blast.

“With trumpets and the sound of the horn shout joyfully before the King, the Lord (Psalms 98:6 NAS).

Give em heaven!!!

YOM TERUAH OR ROSH HA SHANA? BIBLE OR BABYLON?

Trumpet Glory

The trumps are blowing and the KING of Kings is crowned even more so in our lives. One day – perhaps today – the Messiah will return at the Last Trump! Let’s ride on the wind of the sound of His voice!

Did you know that Yom Teruah – the Feast of Trumpets – is in Scripture (Leviticus 23:23-35; Numbers 29: 4-13), but the Jewish New Years – Rosh Ha Shanah – celebrated in the seventh month is not? There is only one mention of Rosh Ha Shanah in Scripture. It is found in Ezekiel 40:1 when Ezekiel honored and spoke of God’S New Year… the first of Aviv. Please allow me to emphasize that last point: Scripture’s only mention of Rosh Ha Shanah corresponds to the only New Year that God set up in Scripture, the first of Aviv in March/April.

Not until 200 AD (170 years after our Messiah rose) did Rosh Ha Shanah come about to replace Yom Teruah in the Mishnah, which later got incorporated into the Talmud… and believe you me, you don’t want any part of the Talmud! There are some disgusting things in the Talmud, for instance it exonerates pedophilia against little girls over 3-yrs-old.

Having a New Year celebrated in the seventh month of the year comes from Babylon. Say what?! Aren’t you amazed to find out that celebrating a New Year for Years in the seventh month is a BABYLONIAN tradition?

The Babylonians used to have a lunar-solar calendar very similar to the Biblical calendar. The result was that Yom Teruah often fell out on the same day as the Babylonian New Years festival known as Akitu. Akitu fell out on the 1st day of Tishri, as well as six months later on the first of Nisan. That’s right! To make matters more confusing the Babylonians celebrated Akitu – New Years – twice a year. Talk about confusing! I see some Tower of Babel fingerprints here.

The 1st of Tishri coincided with Yom Teruah on the 1st day of the Seventh Month. The fact that the Jews had started calling the Seventh Month by the Babylonian name Tishri paved the way for turning Yom Teruah into a Jewish Akitu. At the same time the Rabbis did not want to adopt Akitu outright, so they Judaized it by changing the name of Yom Teruah (Day of Shouting or Day of Trumpets) to Rosh Hashanah (New Years).

WHAT REMAINS?

So what remains if one desires to return to the solid age-old foundations of the Word of God?

Both Rabbinical Judaism and Constantine Christianity have traditions of man that are keeping us from fulfilling the Word of God. We need to determine His righteous measuring line in all things, in this case — celebrating His Feasts — the Feasts of the Lord. Not legalistically, but in a life-giving sense. Just know that any canonized form of the Bible has its limitations and its personal agendas.

That’s why we need to stick with the first five books of the Bible for the foundations of our faith, i.e. believing Moses. Yeshua actually tells His people this very thing: “For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me. But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?” (John 5:46-47 NKJV).

OFFERING BY FIRE

Let all Bridal Lovers of God try to lay down our agendas and traditions on God’s Altar, so we can each make that “offering by fire to the LORD” that Leviticus 23:25 prescribes. Let the All-Consuming Fire’s measuring line of His Word burn up all traditions of men that keep us in Babylon and from keeping the commandments of God that those who love Him will fulfill (Mark 7:7-9,13; John 14:15; 15:10; 1 John 5:2; 2 John 1:6; Revelation 14:12; 18:4).

RETURN OF OUR MESSIAH

What remains in the celebration of Yom Teruah is that what is Scriptural. Yom Teruah — the sounding of the shofar and lifting up of voices to God as ONE — celebrates the day of the return of our Messiah.

The friend who pointed out to me that Rosh Ha Shana was not Scriptural put it this way: “Imagine the ‘sky rolling up like a scroll’ and our Messiah coming for His Bride. Are you ready?”

There are several mentions of the “Last Trump” or “Great Trump” in Scripture, and it’s very prophetic! Matthew 24:30-31, 1 Corinthians 15:16-17; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17: Etc.

CORONATION DAY

What Scripturally remains is that the first day of the seventh month is the coronation day of the kings.

Psalm 47 is a coronation psalm. Check it out!

[1] Psalm 47:5 is the shout and trumpet of Yom Teruah that declares that  God has set His King upon His holy hill of Zion, and a royal rod of authority is placed in the King’s hands to rule righteously in all matters (Psalms 2:6-7; Genesis 49:10; Psalms 45:6; Isaiah 11:1,4; Zechariah 9:9; John 1:47-49; Revelation 2:27).

[2] Psalm 47:6 is the shouting of praise of the king. During the acclamation, all the people shout, “Long live the king!” (1 Kings 1:28-31).

[3] Psalm 47:8 is the ceremony of the throne where the king sits on the throne and is anointed as such (2 Samuel 5:3-4; 1 Kings 1:39-40; 2 Kings 9:1-6).

[4] Psalm 47:9 shows the believers in the Messiah gathering in His presence. Each of the King’s subjects come to visit the king after He has taken the throne. By doing this, they acknowledge their allegiance to Him and receive a commissioning from Him for their job in His Kingdom (Isaiah 66:22-23; Zechariah 14:16-17; Matthew 2:2).

SHIFT

So what caused this shift from Rosh Hashana to Yom Teruah last year for me?

It began with the following post from Rebekkah Avraham when I put out a call for people to seek the Lord for a word for the Biblical Year 5774 (i.e., September 16, 2012) to share with others: “The Scriptural New Year starts on the 1st of Abib… in March/April. There is but one New Year in the Torah of the Most High. There are four in Jewish Tradition. The traditions of men that make the word of God of none effect. God bless you all. Shalom Aleichem.”

Turns out that she is right.

Rosh Ha Shanah is said to celebrate the beginning of the Civil New Year by its proponents — a New Year for Years. Heck, I’ve even touted that, because I thought it was something Biblical; but in reality, God calls the first day of the seventh month the Day of Blasts/Sounding, which corresponds to Yom Teruah. It is Rabbinic Judaism that calls it Rosh Ha Shanah (Head of the Year).

TO MARRY THE KING OF KINGS

Why this is important is that one of the foundational concepts about celebrating Biblical Feasts is that at His Feasts God is calling His people together at a particular time at a particular place to become betrothed (i.e., married to the King of Kings). No wonder there is so much confusion over feasts. It’s literally a battle over and for His Bride. Won’t you celebrate Him His way and join Him in holy matrimony?
