HEBREW LIVING LETTER ™ – HEI – BEHOLDING GOD & DIVINE REVELATION

“Divine Revelation – HEI” by Robin Main

The song “Endless Love” has been going through my head for a while now. It’s a love song from the 80s, which I always sing with Yeshua once I realized He is my only endless love: “My love, there’s only you in my life…The only thing that’s right… My first love… You’re every breath that I take… You’re every step I make… And I, I want to share… All my love with you… No one else will do…” How appropriate that the Hebrew Living Letter ™ HEI (breath) is being spotlighted during the Seventh Day Sabbath. When we rest from all our works on the Biblically designated seventh day, we enter into the very same refreshing sabbath as God did when He rest: “By the seventh day God completed His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made” (Genesis 2:2-3 NASB). You should try it. It really is a delight, especially when your focus is on Endless Love.

HEI or HEY (ה) is the fifth letter of the Hebrew Living Letter ™ Alef-Bet; and therefore, has the numerical value of 5. Its pictograph looks like a man (priest) with his hands raised. HEI represents to behold, to look, to show, or to reveal.

Since the numerical value of HEI is five, we can apply its concepts to various collections of five. Significantly, there are five books of Moses and five voices of joy for the bride and groom. Also, think of your five fingers, your five toes, and your five physical senses: see, hear, touch, taste, and smell. Just as God gave us natural senses to interact with the physical world, He gave us five spiritual senses to connect with the supernatural world:

· Spiritual sight – “The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, and the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints” (Ephesians 1:18).

· Spiritual hearing – “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me” (John 10:27).

· Spiritual sense, feeling, or touch – “For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin” (Hebrews 4:15). “That they should seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us” (Acts 17:27)

· Spiritual smell – “For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing: to the one an aroma from life to life. And who is adequate for these things? For we are not like many, peddling the Word of God, but as from sincerity, but as from God, we speak in Christ in the sight of God” (II Corinthians 2:15-17).

· Spiritual taste – “Taste and see that the LORD is good” (Psalms 34:8).

On a spiritual level, the Hebrews tell us that five can also represent the five levels of a soul:

· nefesh – instincts

· ruach – emotions

· neshamah – mind

· chayah – bridge to transcendence (to be)

· yechidah – oneness

The sound of HEI (ה) is an exhalation of breath; therefore, HEI represents divine breath, revelation and light due to the word “light” being mentioned five times during the first day of creation:Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day (Genesis 1:3-5 NKJV).

The breath of the Spirit of the Living God that flows from the Father and the Son is intimately connected to all the Hebrew Living Letters ™ in general, but especially to the living letter HEI. “By the word of the LORD, were the heavens made; all the hosts of the breath of His mouth” (Psalms 33:6). The letter HEI in Genesis 2:4 appears smaller than usual, which can be interpreted that “in HEI” the heavens and the earth were created. Furthermore, the Hebrew Living Letter ™ BET precedes the small HEI, which represents the Son of God who is the Word of God. It is the Son that breathed forth creation: “These are the generations of the heavens and earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens” (Genesis 2:4).

It is tremendously significant that the sacred name YHVH contains the letter HEI twice. One Jewish Commentary (Midrash) speaks of HEI being a picture of the presence of God within the human heart. Since the letter HEI’s shape can be formed from a DALET and a YUD, it is said to be a picture of returning to God through the transformative power of His Spirit. DALET represents brokenness while YUD represents a hand with five fingers on it. Every person must open the door of their heart to Messiah Yeshua in order to contain the indwelling Spirit of the Living God.

You and I can personally choose to engage the essence of Messiah Yeshua – the Word of God – contained within the Hebrew Living Letter ™ HEI. MUTUAL LINGERING IN LOVE

As I rolled around trying to stay in bed a little longer, I started a Sabbath conversation with my Beloved Yeshua. After all, this is the Seventh Day Sabbath mentioned in His Word. And, He is My Sabbath Rest, and I am His.

I asked Yeshua if I could share His Intercessor burdens with Him, as His helpmate. As I noticed that an incredibly difficult burden did not hit me (as I rested in Him on the Sabbath), Yeshua told me: “I was made for this; but you being with Me helps me tremendously, because I am not alone.”

It dawned on me that one of the kingdom purposes for the Seventh Day Sabbath is simply to stay intimately connected to Him in a consorted way. Lingering and longing for His Presence is a two-way street. Yeshua also longs to linger in a restful love embrace with us, as much (or more) that we do. The mutual lingering in love assists Messiah Yeshua with His intercessory burdens. Just wow! Talk about a new rest perspective!

I am choosing to linger longer in Him and with Him, which somehow is part of the excellent culmination of creation: “By the seventh day God completed His work, which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made” (Genesis 2:2-3 NASB).

HE IS MY SABBATH REST, AND I AM HIS

Resting Bride by Unknown Artist

Q: How do I become His Sabbath Rest?

A: I believe that becoming His Sabbath Rest will differ slightly for each person, even though the Biblical principles should be the same. When I speak of becoming His Sabbath Rest, it not something yucky and legalistic. It has been quite an organic process for me. The more time that I spend in His Presence and in His Word, the more naturally/supernaturally my body, soul, and spirit powers down and settles into the seventh day Sabbath when I surrender to Him and His ways.

Yes. I said, “the seventh day Sabbath.” Significantly, what I am experiencing resonates at the frequency of the Word of God: “And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all of His work which God had created and made” (Genesis 2:2-3 NKJV). If you study each of the seven days of creation, you will notice that unlike the other six days, the seventh day was not closed, so that His people can enter into it by doing as He did – resting from all our work to get rejuvenated.

One of the most delightful books I have come across is Abraham Joshua Heschel’s book called “The Sabbath.” He shares: “The art of keeping the seventh day is the art of painting on the canvas of time the mysterious grandeur of the climax of creation; as He sanctified the seventh day, so shall we. … Our keeping the Sabbath day is a paraphrase of His sanctification of the seventh day.”

As believers know, Messiah Yeshua and our Heavenly Father are supposed to be a continual focus in our lives. On the Sabbath, I endeavor to keep Him my continual focus, even more; AND I rest in that relationship, seeking not to do my own thing: “If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath, From doing your pleasure on My holy day, And call the Sabbath a delight, The holy day of the LORD honorable, And shall honor Him, not doing your own ways, Nor finding your own pleasure, Nor speaking your own words, Then you shall delight yourself in the LORD; And I will cause you to ride in the high hills of the earth, And feed you the heritage of Jacob your father. The mouth of the LORD has spoken” (Isaiah 58:13-14 NKJV).

Practically speaking, I now see the process of becoming His Sabbath Rest, as a lovely weekly date with my Beloved. For instance, I will converse with Yeshua, as I take a leisurely walk, a nap, or a lengthy shower. I will sit quietly with Him with a cup of tea. I will read and meditate on His Word, asking Him to teach me. I will pray to Him, giving Him all my concerns. Sometimes, I simply ask Him what He thinks. Sometimes, all I can do is come to Him with a heavy heart and ask Him to hold me and help me. Most Sabbaths, I spend quite a bit of time staying in His arms, as we hold each other. It really is so wonderful and intoxicating. I know that I was born for this. To be in a oneness relationship with my Beloved.

Setting aside Friday night to Saturday night is a lot easier said than done, especially when most of society worldwide flows to a different rhythm. This is how I am striving to enter His rest and become His Sabbath Rest.

I am discovering a profound reality that the ancient saints called the Sabbath a bride. When the people of Israel stood at Mount Sinai, the Lord told them to “remember the Sabbath day to sanctify it” (Exodus 20:8). The Hebrew word for “to sanctify” is le-kadesh, which means to consecrate a woman to be betrothed.

The Hebrews have such an exquisite gem for humanity. The idea of the Sabbath as a bride has been retained by Israel in their hymn Lechah Dodi, which is chanted when they corporately meet together. Even the sanctification over the wine is explained that just as the wedding ceremony is performed over a cup of wine, so the Sabbath is “the bride that enters the chupah.” To this day the meal that ends the seventh day Sabbath on Saturday night is called “the escort of the queen.” The Sabbath represents a queen as well as a bride, which we are when we enter His rest.

May you enjoy your quest in discovering “He is My Sabbath Rest, and I am His.”
