Twelve years ago, my mentor declared this phrase from Romans 8:19, and my spirit sat up &and took notice. She was/is a forerunner to forerunners in this regard, because this phrase (or a slight variation of it) seems to be on the lips of Kingdom-hearted people.
What’s a manifestation anyway? My Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary (10th Edition) tells me that a manifestation is one of the forms in which an individual is manifested. Interestingly, it’s a public demonstration of power and purpose. When a person manifests, they externally display something so evident that little or no inference is required. Everyone (both in the church and the world) recognizes a genuine manifestation of God’s power and any heavenly position manifestly held here on earth. Therefore, one facet of Romans 8:19 communicates that when the “sons of God” manifest, all creation will clearly see them and understand who they are, because they will be obvious.
The next question that needs to be answered is what are the “sons of God” manifesting that’s so evident to all of creation? My simple little mind went to investigating other occurrences of the phrase “sons of God” in the Bible. If we stick to the New Testament, there are five other mentions of the term “sons of God”:
[1] John 1:12 tells us that the Light (i.e., Yeshua, Jesus) gives power to become the “sons of God” to those who receive Him and believe on His name. John 20:31; 1 John 3;23; and 1 John 5:13 tells us that believing on the name of the Son of God results in our receiving eternal life and loving one another. Additionally, John 17:6 tells us that Yeshua manifested, or made the Father’s Name known to men, and they keep His Word.
Please note that tapping into God’s power is not always automatic, else all creation would have stopped groaning by now. I’m talking about the rubber hitting the road here. When Jesus answered the Pharisees trick question about the Sadducees belief in no resurrection, He retorted: “You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God” (Matthew 22:29 NKJV). Knowing the Scriptures and power of God are inextricably connected. Please remember if you are Is-real, then your knowing something means that you hear, understand, and do that something. Just like Yeshua the Son of God, the sons of God will make our Father’s Name known to men by resonating (or manifesting) at the same frequency as the Word of God.
[2] Romans 8:14 reveals that the “sons of God” are led by the Spirit or walk after the Spirit. To me, living & moving & having our being in the One called Faithful & True (Rev 19:11-13) requires walking in the same manner as Jesus did (1 John 2:2-6) in the fullness of the Spirit and Truth.
[3] Phil 2:15-16 communicates that the “sons of God” are blameless and pure, and they shine as lights to the world, holding forth the word of life, so they can rejoice in the day of the Messiah (i.e Christ). The Greek further explains that being pure is being without mixture. Christians need to sit up and take notice, because the All-Consuming Fire is shaking and sifting through many of these mixed practices in the church today that we: “in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandments of God, ye hold the traditions of men … Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition” (Mark 7:7-9 KJV). My suggestion is that the only thing you hold tightly to is God Himself, then let Him sift through everything else in your life by placing it on His altar. You and I will not display that we are “sons of God” until we have gotten rid of any man-made practices that He sees as mixture.
[4] 1 John 3:1 describes the Father’s beyond agape love being bestowed on the “sons of God.”
[5] 1 John 3:2 reveals when the Father appears, the “sons of God” shall be like Him, because we shall see Him as He is and we will purify ourselves, even as He is pure. Can you say the reverential fear of God?
This gives us plenty to chew on and shoot for. May righteousness, holiness and truth guide you and me, as we strive to enter the rest, by becoming genu-wine manifestations of the sons of God.
