Queen Esther is the quintessential example of an overcomer.
When she uttered “if I perish, I perish” (Esther 4:16), it was a very real possibility where only the king’s extended scepter remedied her perilous plight. Esther could not remain silent about Haman’s plan to exterminate her people. She got a divine nudge in the right direction from her uncle Mordecai (picture of the Holy Spirit): “For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place and you and your father’s will perish. And who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14 NASB).
An evil man of the lineage of King Agag had become great in King Ahasuarus’ court – Haman. One of the reasons Haman desired to kill every Jew was Mordecai had refused to bow to him. The other reason was generational. Many moons before, God had told King Saul (a Benjamite) to kill King Agag, but he had refused. Therefore, the generational cycle repeated where one from the Tribe of Benjamin (take your choice of Queen Esther or Mordecai) faced an evil ruling Amalekite – Haman – where the cost was life and death.
Haman had cast lots for a whole year to determine the best time to kill the Jews. The 13th of Adar was finally chosen. On the 13th of Nisan, the death sentence message went out, which said that in 11 months on the 13th of Adar, all men everywhere could kill any Jew they could find. Mordecai, Esther and all the Jewish people in the Persian Kingdom fasted and prayed for three days: Nisan 14, 15, and 16. Then, Esther went before the king to ask for her life and for the life of her people on Nisan 17.
It is extremely significant that they prayed and fasted on 14th Nisan through the 16th of Nisan. Nisan 14 was the time that the Passover Lamb was sacrificed in the afternoon and prepared. At sundown on Nisan 15, the seven-day Festival of Unleavened Bread began. The Book of John reveals that Yeshua (Jesus) died on the Day of Preparation (Nisan 14), the day before the Passover meal, sometime after noon but before sunset. According to Josephus, this would have been “from the ninth hour until the eleventh,” which corresponds to 3:00 to 5:00 PM (The Jewish Wars, VI). The whole day of Nisan 14 (the day when the Passover Lamb was killed) has been referred to as The Passover when the passover was not a day, but the meal eaten (the sacrifice partaken of during a Passover Seder) at the very end of that day at the start of Nisan 15. The Apostle Paul backs up John the Beloved by saying Yeshua was “sacrificed as a Passover Lamb” (I Cor. 5:7), which means He was sacrificed as a Passover Lamb on Nisan 14. Additionally, Paul proclaims: “Christ has been raised from the dead, the First Fruit of those who sleep” (I Cor. 15:20), which according to my calculations, three days and three nights would have been Nisan 17 – the Feast of First Fruits (Bikkurim).
So, when Queen Esther went before the king on Nisan 17, she was literally flowing according to God’s Biblical Calendar whether she knew it, or not (See Leviticus 23:9-14). Historically, great salvation and deliverance has happened on the Feast of First Fruit (Bikkurim). Not only were the Jewish people saved from certain death in Persia on First Fruits; but on First Fruits, Noah’s Ark came up out of the waters of death and rested safely on Mount Ararat. On First Fruits, the waters of the Red Sea parted, and God’s people came up safely on the other side. On First Fruits, Yeshua resurrected conquering death forever!
Through the eternal practices of fasting and prayer, Queen Esther, Mordecai and their kinsmen entered into another time from eternity. They tapped into the exact time on earth when the Jewish Messiah Yeshua would not only become their deliverer, but the Savior for the entire world.
When the 13th of Adar finally came around in Esther’s day, the Lord turned the tables by allowing the Jews to kill all their enemies. Can you hear them breathing a sound of relief? It’s interesting that we don’t hear of a massacre at this time. However, we do hear of the ten sons of Haman being killed. In the Day of the Lord, Messiah Yeshua will destroy the False Messiah and his ten heads (Dan. 8, Rev. 13) just as Queen Esther and Mordecai overcame Haman and his sons.
We are at another Esther moment. Behold, the Bride of the Messiah (i.e., Corporate Esther) has been born for such a time as this. The Bride of Christ will petition her Beloved – the King of Kings – for her life and the life of her people (all of humanity) in this Kingdom Day.
