The Dead Sea Scrolls reveals a fragmented Melchizedek text (11Q13), which begins with the jubilee proclamation of Leviticus 25. It portrays the figure of Melchizedek as a heavenly savior. We see each person returning to his own land, which is then linked to Isaiah 61:1 “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me… to proclaim liberty to the captives.” Then the rest of the Melchizedek fragment goes on to show us what the Melchizedek Jubilee looks like.
The Great High Priest Melchizedek’s Jubilee brings liberty, forgiveness of sins and release from the power of the rebel angels who have captured the children of light – you and me. Before this Melchizedek text reveals that “your divine being is Melchizedek,” it describes the setting where the Lamb of God who takes the sins of the world takes His place on the heavenly throne to open the seals (Revelation 5).
This setting is framed with Psalm 82:1 “God has taken His place in the heavenly council in the midst of the Elohim He sits in judgment.” Psalm 82:1 can also be translated: “A godlike being has taken his place in the council of God; in the midst of the divine beings he holds judgment.” As you can see, the 11Q13 Melchizedek text definitely applies to Messiah Yeshua (Jesus Christ) the Great High Priest of the Order of Melchizedek. It can also apply to others being made after the Order of Melchizedek as well. Then Melchizedek’s Jubilee is called the Day of Salvation where Isaiah 52:7 is painted on liberty’s canvas: “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of the messenger who announces peace, who brings good news, who announces salvation, who says to Zion, ‘Your divine being reigns.’” May we press on toward the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:14)!
