If we get our hearts in tune, our behaviors will follow.
Have you ever heard that saying: “God doesn’t have a list of DOS and DON’TS” ?
There are many things that are not listed in Scripture, like occasionally smoking a cigar. I believe that these are things a person needs to discern for themselves, and not rely on man’s lists of what is right and wrong. Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with a cigar once in a while… and this comes from a person who has never smoked and was actually allergic to smoke. I got healed from that by the way, and I do realize the possible health risks.
Many moons ago, I told a dear friend who was a chain smoker of cigarettes that God is more concerned with your heart than your behaviors. I knew that if this guy would submit himself unto the Lord wholeheartedly, then He would simply take care of “things” — his behaviors. Low and behold, one day my friend woke up and God told him: “You are free from smoking” and my friend didn’t touch another cigarette again.
Ultimately, it really does not matter what I or any other person thinks that matters. It’s what the LORD of LOVE thinks, because He knows and wants what’s best for you. So let those intangible things be something that draws you closer to Him, because for those who have accepted the gift of Yeshua’s (Jesus) death, burial and resurrection on the cross – the WORD OF GOD is so near you that it is IN you.
We know that the letter of the law kills, and the Spirit brings life. Our discernment in Christ will give us His heart in the matter.
When you point people to the very heart of God, they are not laying something down because they have to, but because they want to. This is where a true heart transformation lies. I am not excusing sin. The Holy Spirit in each one of us convicts His people of sin, righteousness and judgment. If a person asks you about a particular behavior, God is already at work. For me, it’s His kindness that leads me to repentance (Romans 2:4).
Technically speaking, God does have a list of DOS and DON’TS. Since righteousness is in Christ Jesus and it is a State of Being that resonates at the same frequency of the Spirit and the Word of God, there are guidelines in Scripture to help us line-up with LOVE, which is something that He does tell us to DO… over and over and over again… Love God and love people. There are many DON’TS in Scripture too. For instance, James 3:14-16 tells us not to operate in jealousy, bitter envying and strife. Galatians 5:19-21 gives us a list of the works of the flesh that will cause a person to not inherit the Kingdom of God.
Scripture is a plumb line, but we stay spiritual in its application of it in our lives by our focus on HIM and HIM alone… then this SINGLE HEART FOCUS and DEVOTION (like David) causes HIM and us to work together, as we line up with the PERFECT TUNE OF LOVE, LIGHT AND LIFE.
